Why does this matter?
A major Roman villa and palace complex developed here in late antiquity, with baths, storage, fortifications, basilicas and a harbour. The surviving walls are so dominant that the settlement itself took its name from the palace.
That convenience should not make the ruins feel casual. Walk the edges and notice how the present settlement occupies the old harbour logic.
What should you look for?
The ruins are archaeology, not climbing walls. Do not rush the photograph. First place the detail back inside the street, harbour or landscape that made it possible.
How to find it
- From Polače harbour, walk toward the large ancient stone walls beside the settlement. They are part of the Roman palace complex that gave Polače its name.
- Use the map as a final check, then look for the physical detail described above.
- Allow enough time to notice the surroundings instead of treating this as a pin to collect.
Is it worth the detour?
Yes—if you prefer a place with a story to another interchangeable viewpoint. This is not the biggest sight in Polače. It is the one that makes the destination less generic.
