THE STORY IN PLAIN SIGHT

A red Fićo now sits on top of the tank.

Monuments often make war abstract. A tiny red car beneath a tank did the opposite, and the rebuilt scene refuses to soften the memory.

Why does this matter?

In June 1991 a tank crushed a red Fićo at this Osijek intersection, an image that became part of the city’s wartime memory. The later memorial flips the scene: the small red car is shown overcoming the tank.

This is not a quirky photo stop. Read the context before reaching for the camera.

What should you look for?

Do not just photograph the tank. Frame the tiny red car above it. Do not rush the photograph. First place the detail back inside the street, harbour or landscape that made it possible.

How to find it

  1. Go to the intersection of Vukovarska and Trpimirova streets and find the red Fićo positioned above the tank in the memorial installation.
  2. Use the map as a final check, then look for the physical detail described above.
  3. Allow enough time to notice the surroundings instead of treating this as a pin to collect.

Is it worth the detour?

Yes—if you prefer a place with a story to another interchangeable viewpoint. This is not the biggest sight in Osijek. It is the one that makes the destination less generic.
